STS 599 (12): MA Thesis in Science and Technology Studies

Master’s students in the STS Program are required to complete a 12 credit research thesis. The grading system is pass/fail.

Students will be expected to engage in original research culminating in the completion of a written thesis (no fewer than 50 pages) and an oral defense. A student’s research area and methods will require approval by the student’s supervisory committee by the beginning of the second year of study. The student will be expected to research and write the thesis during the second year under the guidance of a primary supervisor. The student will submit the thesis to the supervisory committee (consisting of the supervisor and two other readers), and if it is approved, an oral defense will be scheduled. The student must pass both the written and oral components of the thesis to graduate from the program.
